$180,000 custom car

Behold O-zilla – not your ordinary car.

For starters, it’s worth about $180,000.

It contains nearly 1,300 manhours of customizing work, by 18 people.

It sports a candy blue paint job with an ebony snakeskin pattern, and the interior is stuffed with techno toys.

A click of the button on the remote control and the retractable roof opens and three 40-inch flat screen TVs slowly rise above the vehicle. Each TV is hooked up to its own Xbox, allowing video-gamers to compete simultaneously.

The trunk has been transformed into a DJ booth, complete with turntable, mixer, speakers and amplifiers.

O-zilla is a concept car, created to promote the Toyota Scion and the new OpenRoad Scion dealerships opening in the Lower Mainland.

Local custom body shop 360 Fabrication was contracted to modify a Scion xB into a showcase vehicle for the OpenRoad Auto Group.

“It is a roving ambassador,” said Will Fong, director of marketing.

They’re targeting the 18-to-30-year-old demographic.

“This is a modern-day hot rod,” says Rick Francoeur, who owns 360 Fabrications with his brother Darryl.

“There is a huge cult following down south for these cars,” he added. “You can customize them any way you want; this is the extreme version.”

Along with employee Gary Loewen, the trio came up with three designs and the OpenRoad executives opted for the most expensive option.

Francoeur said some of the more difficult aspects of the job included widening the back end by a foot and chopping three inches from the roof to accommodate the TV platform.

The project was completed and handed over to vehicle to OpenRoad.

It will be shown at OpenRoad dealerships in the Lower Mainland this summer.
